Ahead of the grand Sital Sasthi festival in Sambalpur, TP Western Odisha Distribution Limited (TPWODL) has undertaken extensive infrastructure upgrades and safety measures to ensure uninterrupted power supply and safe passage of the festival processions.

With lakhs of devotees expected to participate in one of western Odisha’s most celebrated festivals, the utility has strengthened the power distribution network across key procession routes and congregation points in the city.

As part of the initiative, TPWODL installed 76 joist poles and 65 PSC poles and completed nearly 16 circuit kilometres of Low Tension (LT) Aerial Bunched (AB) cable work in areas including Nandapada, Jharuapada, Phasor Club, Rastaliya, Modipada, Pani Tanki, Pattnaik Pada, Thelkopada and Gol Bazar. The upgrades are aimed at improving line clearances and ensuring the smooth movement of the Sital Sasthi processions.

To enhance public safety, fencing has been installed around distribution transformers at 15 high-footfall locations. A special maintenance drive covering 328 poles along the procession routes was also carried out. During the exercise, unsafe cable joints were replaced with insulated cables, while distribution boxes were installed on poles to improve safety and streamline service connections.

TPWODL has also put in place a contingency plan for the festival period. Dedicated teams will monitor the power network round-the-clock and respond to emergencies, while two mobile distribution transformers have been kept on standby for immediate deployment if required.

TPWODL Chief Executive Officer Parveen Verma said the utility was committed to ensuring a safe and hassle-free celebration.

“Sital Sasthi is an integral part of western Odisha’s cultural heritage. Our teams have worked extensively to strengthen the network and implement enhanced safety measures so that devotees can celebrate without disruption,” he said.
